Repairs

There are 2 Types of cedar roof shake:

  1. #1 CCA Pre-Treated/pressure treated shake
  2. #1 Tapersawn/Resawn RAW.

Most of the new construction uses the CCA pre-treated shake.

This shake is rated up to 40 years!

As you can see in this picture above repairs are needed when your shake has become weak.

Weather / sun damage, birds, insects and age is all a cause for your cedar shake to become

damaged, also whenever your tar paper is exposed repairs are needed to protect

your roof from further damage and leaks.

This is very poor quality shake ridge caps.  See the knots on the ridge.

This was a repair job done by one of our competitors using poor quality # 3 raw shake.

This is the lowest grade # 3 raw ridge.  #2 and #3 Shake/Ridge is not meant to be used on residential roofs!

As you can see this will leave a very bad patchy look on your roof and will also have several knots on the

ridge cap, these knots pop out and will LEAVE HOLES!  Raw shake/Ridge is of a very poor grade.

Another problem is the staples in the low grade ridge will not hold and in time will split,

which will leave your tar paper exposed and could cause more damage to your roof.

As you can see the ridge line and shake repairs were all done with raw shake

which causes a very bad patch look on your roof.

Most roof cleaning companies will use raw shake for repairs and this will leave the

patchy look on your roof.  Also using the raw shake will cause you to have to re-repair

a few years later.  Roof Maintenance Specialist LLC only use CCA pre-treated #1

Shake for repairs.  Using the #1 Shake will look like the repairs were

never done and will blend with your roof.
